Sleepless

SLEEPLESS ZINE was officially released at the Sleepless exhibition; my first solo photography exhibition held at SupernormalShot solely on film, it showcases photographs from my time in Seoul & Busan in the Spring & Fall of 2017, which seeks to capture the fleeting moments; of those between breaths and blinks and more often than not, the forgotten feelings.

SLEEPLESS
A solo photography exhibition

“We do not remember days; we remember moments.”

Do you find yourself holding onto a certain memory or particular moment and wish you could go back– not to change anything, but to relive some of these feelings just one more time? You replay it in your head so many times, you’re not even sure if you’re remembering it right. You wish there was a way to capture these moments; to keep them alive– every single bit of them in their very essence– because you want to relive them for a long time.

I found a diary note I once wrote to myself some six or seven years ago: “I often find myself yearning for memories which have long passed me by; a world I once knew so well, one which held both my head and heart. It was everything, then nothing all at once." I am starting to forget pieces of it as days go by, but I am also remembering pieces of it in ways my heart wants to. And till the very next new memory, I want to always remember everything, every moment, every feeling.”

A photograph is a record of time and light and through this exhibition, each photograph plays a key role in translating the idea of capturing these moments in their truest visual form.

Taking a leaf out of one of my favorite books; a quote that hits home for me and one that probably translates what I, otherwise am not able to say myself: “What is that feeling when you’re driving away from people and they recede on the plain till you see their specks dispersing? – it’s the too-huge world vaulting us, and it’s good-bye. But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies.” – On the Road by Jack Kerouac

Here’s to feeling feelings, and feeling everything entirely; to remembrance, to growth, to rediscovery, to newer adventures, perspectives and dreams.
